about

during October 2013 a close friend came back to Italy from Estonia. he stayed for a week. the day before leaving I and other friends helped him to scan pictures for a project he had in mind. those picture came from a mid 80's book he had at his parents house, and they were pictures of the Alps.

before the scanning process he showed us some of those photos. as he started, he wrapped the covering paper off the hardcover, revealing this full, fat turquoise hidden cover, with no pictures, only the white title standing: Le Alpi.

I was absolutely fascinated by this extremely simple cover. in fact, I started wondering why, but I found no reason at the time. I asked anyway to have it scanned.

after some weeks other casual events reminded me of a couple of Werner Herzog's documentaries about passionate alpinists and skiers. I realized there was a link between that thick, dense turquoise color and the extreme experiences I saw in the movies: the feeling of the mountains as a unique entity, both solid with its ground and rock and the stormy, sometimes wild atmosphere surrounding its figure - a monolithic, vertical presence of nature.
